Does Vietnam have too many or too few airports?
Currently, Vietnam plans to increase the number of airports nationwide from 30 to 32 by 2030, and to 34 by 2050. The goal of this plan is to ensure that over 95% of the total population can access aviation services within a 100km radius. However, 11 out of the current 21 civilian airports are operating at a loss. Despite huge investments in airports like Can Tho, the low passenger volume and almost non-existent international flights have sparked debate about their economic efficiency.
